Digital Media 11 A Look into The Past For my creative arts festival project, I chose to add an old VHS effect on to an image. The background image that I chose was Times Square because I imagined that it would be an actual place that people would record when they would visit there. I got my inspiration for this project from watching old home videos. I thought that it was pretty cool seeing old pixelated videos of my family and I with the text that would say “Play” with the red circle that meant it was recording, and being able to see the date in the bottom corner. I thought that this would be a cool thing to replicate in Photoshop, and it was, I had a lot of fun making it. I wasn’t entirely sure how I would create the screen tears, or what tools to use so I ended up looking at a tutorial to figure out how to make the effect. In the end, I didn’t follow the tutorial too much, I tried to make it as close to my own as possible. Once I figured out how to make the main effect, I didn’t need the tutorial anymore. For this project, I didn’t end up using too many tools. What I did was, I took a picture of some clouds, I then lowered the saturation drastically and then used the shear tool and the distort tool to create the screen tears. The only use of a tool that I implemented was the move tool which I used to reposition the distorted clouds so that there is an even spread of tearing and it’s not all just in one place. I also used the liquefy function to distort the background image a bit. What I like most about the piece is the simplicity of it. All it is is a bunch of layers which distort the original image, the only change I made to the layer with the background on it was liquefying it. I DO NOT HAVE A SAVED COPY OF MY PROJECT. MY SERVER FILE WAS TOO FULL TO SAVE IT. YOU HAVE A COPY OF IT ON YOUR USB DRIVE. OriginalsHybrid For the realistic version of this assignment, I chose to put Bruce Willis' head on Eminem's body.
BeforeAfterFor the more realistic version of this project, I chose to edit an image of my childhood hero, Bruce Willis. I wanted to see what he would look like with less wrinkles, and honestly, I was surprised. I now have a deeper understanding of the clone tool and I'm ready for the next project.
